Rental Cars in London. Minimum Age of 25? + Left-Hand Driving?
I’m 18 years old, and me and my friend are backpacking in the UK for a few days this coming summer.
1. What companies are cheap but still not sleezy and semi-legitimate?
2. I have had my licence since march 2007, so hopefully I will be allowed to rent one of their cars. Anyone have any views on this?
(I’m considered a safe driver and have not been in any collisions of any sort since i got my licence). I’ve heard however, that you have to be 25 to rent cars.
3. Does it take a long time to get used to left-hand driving? I guess the matter of changing gears should be okay, but the mirrored yealding-rules; are they difficult to get used to?
Thanks alot:)

We are starting and ending our journey at Stansted Airport.
and by the time we arrive i’ll be 19;)
hey guys.
i have no problem not picking up the car from stansted though… we can allways just take the airport express train down to the city… do you think there might be better chances of hire while being 19 years old there?

Help with trip to London Please?
Hiya.
I am a fifteen year old girl who, as crazy as it seems, is planning to travel overseas. I’ve been planning itfor a while now and I have most of my information. I am planning to go when I am 20ish, and I know it seems a bit stupid to plan it in this much advance, but I love to think ahead of time.
My rough plan so far:
Book plane flight from Qantas one world round the world trip planner, from Brisbane Airport, QLD Australia, to Heathrow Airport, London, UK.
Staying in London at Park Plaza County Hall for one month.
I am not a big fan of foods from diferent countries, so I will be mostly sightseeing more than checking out the restaurants. I plan to travel by public transport. I have a list of places I am most likely gonna visit:
Big Ben
London Eye
Tower Bridge
Trafalagar Square
The British Museum
Natural History Museum
Hyde Park
London Aquarium
Buckingham Palace
Covent Garden
Shakespeare Globe Theatre.
Other suggestions on must see places would be great.
So from London Heathrow, I am going to fly to LAX, Los Angeles, rent a car, and check into Best Western Airpark Hotel in Inglewood for a month.
Places visiting:
Walk of Fame
Hollywood Sign
Griffith Park
Venice Beach
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum
Exposition Rose Garden
LA Zoo
Universal Studio’s
Rodeo Drive.
Any other suggestions would be great.
The from there I will be departing LAX Airport and arrive back at Brisbane Airport, QLD. Past travellers, Londoners, Americans and just people with knowledge on these places would be very much appreciated. I am not looking for comments on my age, since I am planning this for years to come, and I am aware that things are going to change from now til I go. So my question is.. Are there any other attractions/sights to be seen that are really worth while in these places. Any important gadgets or books you have bought and were very helpful. I have allocated AUD 1000 for every week I am overseas, plus more for spending money. That $1000 per week is for sightseeing and food, not car rental or accomodation. I have worked out the seperate amounts for accomodation and such. Money is not an obstacle, as I have a long time to save this money and my mother is glad to help me financially. Once again, I know it’s a long time away, but I like to plan ahead. Is it correct that I dont need a visa to visit these places for under 90 days? Because thats great. I am planning on getting travelers cheques and credit cards. All I am looking for is maybe some suggested Itineraries, or some places where you have visited and thought worth while.
Sorry about the long description.
Thanks in advance.
Samantha.
Jim: Because I would like to see the heart of the city, and who knows, maybe in the future, I may change my plans to explore more of the UK. It’s just a rough draft of my trip, keep in mind that its going to be a long time til I go.
But thank you.
Sorry, heart of the country*
Never: Why thank you. I would say I am a bit too organised
Thanks for the travellers cheques ‘heads up’ and yes, I was think either I explore more of the UK or just shorten my trip. But I will most likely explore more
Thank you.
Ellie: The Tate Modern! I forgot about that. Thank you
I will definitely look into all the things you suggested. I am quite flexible with the accomodation and have many other back up options
Thank you for your insight ![]()
Jaspadora: Thank you
